Plan your Spring Break, Family-Fun Duluth Activity Checklist

With 28 schools in the Duluth Public School District plus several independent charter schools located in the area, it is no surprise Duluth offers plenty of kid-approved activities around town. So when searching for a Spring Break getaway, Duluth is a prime destination for families looking for creating memories and sharing new experiences with their littles – and Pier B Resort Hotel is happy to place you right in the middle of it.

Read on to plan your must-do family activity list.

Amusement Parks

Located in Duluth’s Canal Park, Adventure Zone is fun for all ages with activities like multi-level laser tag, batting cages, mini golf, rock climbing walls, a VR arena, their kid’s cove play area, and arcade games! They offer various pass options so you can choose how you want to play.

The Adventure Park at Spirit Mountain is full of outdoor adrenaline boosts! With rides like the Timber Flyer Zip Line and Timber Twister Alpine Coaster, scenic chairlift tickets to beautiful views, a jumping pillow, disc golf, and putt-putt golf – just like its name boasts, adventure truly begins on the mountain.

Playgrounds

Playfront Park has to rank at the top of our must-play playground lists of the area. It is located right next door to our resort AND is Duluth’s largest playground. The design is created to enhance children’s balance, coordination, and strength. So they are having fun while developing and growing! Win-win!

You can also get out into the community and explore a neighborhood park! There are slides, swings, and monkey bars all across the city waiting to be discovered. You can find park listings at https://duluthmn.gov/parks/parks-listing/ and even search for your favorite amenities.

Zoo

Have your kids find their favorite animal at the Lake Superior Zoo! Home to over 300 furry, scaly, or feathery friends, the zoo provides an educational and entertaining experience. The team is committed to providing close-up animal experiences, so be on the lookout for feeding times to learn more about the animals who live there and the conservation efforts made to keep their species safe. …Also, they have a playground!

Shopping

Want to get a little shopping done on vaca? Or maybe you forgot to pack something? The Miller Hill Mall is filled with shops, food, and a play area for the kids. Or browse around the shops at Fitger’s picking up some local treasures to take home. Downtown Duluth, the Lincoln Park Craft District, and Canal Park also offer fun shops to peruse for fun souvenirs.

Museums

The Depot is home to multiple history museums and an art museum. One of our favorite attractions housed there is the Lake Superior Railroad Museum where you can find an impressive collection of historic railroad equipment, tour some old engines, and purchase tickets for a train excursion!

Take a voyage into the history of the Great Lakes at the Lake Superior Maritime Museum. Free to visitors, the museum offers an educational look through time at the importance of maritime and how it has shaped our lives now. Step outside and you will find yourself under the Aerial Lift Bridge –  make sure to find a boat schedule to watch the port traffic in action!

Sightseeing

Sitting on a Great Lake gives Duluth some of the most awe inspiring views you can find. Explore the grounds and climb the tower at Enger Park. Stop and smell the roses (literally!) in the Rose Garden or play in the “castles” at Leif Erikson park, both found along the beautiful Lakewalk along the edge of Lake Superior. Take on a family hike through the Superior Hiking Trail to catch vistas overlooking the harbor. We highly recommend all of the above for a perfect Duluth outing with the family.

Room to Roam

Your Spring Break getaway needs a homebase and the 7.4 acres of land, unique amenities, welcoming team, and comfortable rooms at Pier B is the perfect home away from home for the entire family. Our harbor lawn offers space to play during the day and fire pits for smores at night. Our outdoor sport court is equipped for basketball, pickleball, ping pong, or a drink while sitting at a table taking in the fun. And our pool is always a kid favorite! Then stop by Silos Restaurant for a convenient yet elegant way to dine at the end of an eventful day.
