Summer Stay Itinerary Fit for your Crew
With so many things to see around Duluth during a Pier B stay, it might be hard to narrow it down and plan your perfect day! Here are a few itineraries we recommend depending on who you’re traveling with.
Families with Young Kids
Morning:
Start your day with a quick drive or walk to get some baked goods and coffee at Duluth’s Best Bread’s Superior Street location near the lakewalk.
Let the kids wander along the rocks on Lake Superior, watch boats pass through the Aerial Lift Bridge, and visit the Marine Museum to learn more about Duluth’s shipping history.
Move from exploring sea to land and take the kids to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum located in the Union Depot. The museum showcases vintage trains and interactive exhibits.
Afternoon:
Stop by the iconic Grandma’s Saloon & Grill, a Duluth staple with a diverse menu.
After lunch, head over to Playfront Park, right next to Pier B and let the kids play on the outdoor playground. Or check out the Great Lakes Aquarium next door, to explore the underwater world of Lake Superior after spending the morning adventuring above water. Local fish and animals as well as interactive fun will engage kids of all ages.
Evening:
Come back to Pier B and spend the later afternoon swimming in the pool or playing on our outdoor sport court. For dinner, relax on-site at Silos Restaurant. Then end the night roasting marshmallows and sharing your favorite parts of the day around a firepit on our Harbor Lawn.
Couples
Morning:
Sleep in then slowly enjoy a cup of coffee while wandering our grounds, sit on the harbor lawn, and watch what’s happening on the lake.
For brunch, try out a local gem, the Duluth Grill. From smoothie bowls to caramel rolls to breakfast plates, their menu is fresh and organic.
Afternoon:
Get on the lake by renting a boat through Your Boat Club, utilizing our boat slip. Or stay close to shore using a paddleboard, paddleboat, or water pedal trike.
Check out any events happening next door at Bayfront Park. Throughout the summer they are host to concerts and festivals. Peek at their calendar: www.bayfrontfestivalpark.com/event-calendar.
Evening:
If not attending any events, check out the restaurants and shops along Canal Park and the Lakewalk. Make a stop by the Portland Malt Shoppe for one of their famous desserts. Then come back to Pier B for a drink at Silos and rest in the outdoor hot tub
Couples with Dogs
Morning:
Pick up breakfast at Silos Restaurant on-site before exploring local trails around Duluth with your dogs! The Superior Hiking Trail offers loops ranging in difficulty with beautiful overlooks and picturesque waterfalls and northwoods scenery. You can also head up the North Shore for more trails along Lake Superior and fun shops.
Afternoon:
If up the shore, swing into Betty’s Pies and pick up an order to-go for a lunch picnic outdoors. Then continue on your nature walks.
If in town, enjoy Canal Park Brewing’s dog-friendly patio paired with a meal and brew. Then, visit one of Duluth’s many dog parks to play some fetch and meet some friends.
Evening:
During a walk around Canal Park, order some tacos from Chachos, ice cream from Love Creamery, then settle down for the evening back at Pier B. And before you go, make sure to check out Tug’s Bud’s Nook for special doggy gifts and belly rubs from our staff!
