Experience the Magic of Late Autumn at Pier B Resort Hotel
The cozy chill in the air, leaves rustling in vibrant colors, and the scent of pumpkin spice—it’s official; fall has arrived in Duluth, MN! And here at Pier B Resort Hotel, we’re thrilled to welcome the season in the grandest way possible: with the artistry of (GIANT) pumpkin carving.

Giant Pumpkin Magic in Our Own Backyard
This next week, we’re proud to host a truly unique experience that promises to mesmerize and delight locals and visitors alike. On the grounds of Pier B Resort Hotel, we’ve got not one, but two colossal 1,500-pound pumpkins ready to be transformed into works of art, thanks to our special guest, a talented pumpkin carver Mike Rudolph.  Jerry Gibson from Jerry’s Pumpkin Patch in Sturgeon Lake, MN was generous enough to donate his harvested pumpkins for this all to happen!

The Carving Extravaganza
Imagine the sheer magnitude of a 1,500-pound pumpkin. Now envision it turned into a canvas for creativity. That’s the spectacle we have in store for you. Once the carving is complete, these gigantic, transformed pumpkins will remain on display at Pier B Resort Hotel for all to enjoy. These majestic creations will serve as a reminder of the beauty and artistry that autumn brings to Duluth. We can’t wait to show you! In the meantime, check out last year’s beauties! 😱

The largest freshwater lake in the world has a certain magnetism about it. Pulling you towards it, beckoning you to come and relax along its shores. Explore its hidden treasures. Slow down and listen to the waves. Play and paddle within its waters. Luckily for us and our guests, Pier B makes it easy to answer the lake’s call – placing you next to the undeniable allure of Lake Superior and providing the amenities and space to enjoy all of its autumn splendor.

Time to Relax

Pause the busyness of everyday life and breathe in the tranquility of Lake Superior. Experience the leaves changing through the windows of your comfortable suite. Rest on our Harbor Lawn while watching impressive ships navigate through the Aerial Lift Bridge, sipping on a signature cocktail or craft drink from the bar at Silos Restaurant.

Come dinner time, savor memories and meals within our beautiful restaurant before heading back outdoors for an evening around our fire pits. Catch one of our on-site events, including our Courtside Concert Series, and book an appointment with Cedar and Stone Nordic Sauna to refresh by the lake.

Time to Explore

Looking for a day trip up Superior’s scenic shore? We are experts at recommending which shops to stop at, places to eat, and sights to view.

Spend the day meandering Tettegouche State Park, stop by Betty’s Pies for a must-try famous pie, and swing into the Great! Lakes Candy Kitchen for some souvenir homemade goodies for the drive back to Pier B for a relaxing evening…just as one example.

Don’t want to leave Duluth? Some of the most picturesque vistas and golden covered trails are located within our city limits! Leave your footprints and find your newest favorite hiking spots along the Keenes Creek, Lester Park, or Chester trails.

Time to Slow Down

Escape the hustle of your day to day and soak in the serene sunrises and sunsets around Lake Superior. Wander along the shores to Canal Park and the Lake Walk, watch the waves roll in and out, and find a slower view on life. We find it is simply easier to breathe when we run on lake time.

Scrap your day’s itinerary and see where a day by the lake takes you. You don’t have to be anywhere. You don’t have to do anything. The day is yours. Skip rocks. Dip your toes in. Close your eyes on a bench and simply listen to the wind and the waves and the birds and the laughter and the lake life joy of those around you.

Time to Paddle

Tread through tranquil waters and explore the coast of the Greatest Lake.

Rent a boat from Your Boat Club (the season wraps up October 1, so get your reservations early!) and start your adventure from our boat slip. Have your own kayaks or paddle board? Pack them along and push off along the shore. Our waterfront offers a convenient way to get out on the lake and back on land easily.

A stay on our lake is the perfect way to awaken your spirit and rejuvenate your soul. Don’t ignore its call this season ~ book your stay now at pierbresort.com.

At Pier B, we are proud to not only offer our guests a wonderful place to be – but also all our employees an enjoyable place to work.

“I have worked in many wonderful places, but Pier B has built a culture of happiness,” said Heather Hughley, Assistant General Manager. “It’s fun to watch new employees come in the door and make fast friends with the current team because our vibe is to make sure everyone excels in their position – new or not. Our employees work hard, have fun, and truly want to make sure our guests have the best experience when they stay with us!”
We believe that having a great team of passionate staff creates our healthy and successful workplace, so we place a high value on employee wellness, work culture, benefits, and pay.

“Why is working at Pier B so unique and special? The location and views are fantastic,” said Nikki Anderson, Director of Guest Experience and Revenue. “And our work culture is the one to beat in Duluth. The three words I would use to describe working here are: fast-paced, engaging, and rewarding.”

“What makes us unique is right in the name – we are a resort and restaurant on a pier!” Hughley said. “From the minute you drive in you’re surrounded by panoramic views of Lake Superior and Duluth. Sharing a slip with Bayfront means we have the best view in Duluth of Bentleyville and have a front seat ticket to all the big-name concerts throughout the summer. On our own island of fun, we make sure our guests have something to do all year round with wagon rides in the winter, concerts in the summer, water sports, dryland sports, board games, and so much more. It makes working here almost as enjoyable as staying with us!”
Additionally, to ensure those who work with us feel fulfilled, we are glad to offer perks including competitive wages and benefits, free meals and parking, immediate PTO, an employee referral program, and more!
Our team is truly a family and thanks to them they make our resort the enjoyable getaway our guests know and love. With a work environment unparalleled to anywhere else, we provide the chance to help create special memories for every guest who walks through our doors.

“The crew at Pier B is an actual VIBE,” Anderson says. “It’s a caring, hard-working group of people who are so passionate and have a funny, genuine, light approach to their day which gives our guests the best authentic experience around.

The leadership works hard to maintain the positive vibe while still working hard.

When asked about her favorite part of being a member of the leadership team Hughley said, “First of all, I love that we have a team that is committed to their roles and involved with making their departments succeed, but also committed to making sure we have a great work culture. Because of this it’s been fun to see new employees come in and want to grow in their role and experiences – all because of the other staff and culture we’ve built. I’ve had the pleasure of promoting people, wishing them well at other Leisure properties, and overall experiencing a wonderful team-oriented culture!”
“It’s [the leadership team] a tight knit group of wonderful humans who support and help each other,” Anderson added. “We all have a common goal of having a positive work environment that cultivates teamwork, genuine interactions, and a passion to be a successful team throughout the resort.

We have available positions open ranging from helping guests in our hotel, cooking and serving at Silos Restaurant, and setting up with our banquet team – offering opportunities in various specialties that fit your interests and skill sets!
Advice our two leaders would give to new employees:

“Be yourself!” encourages Anderson. “Work hard but don’t ever forget to laugh. You are supported and important and we love working side by side with you!”

Hughley added, “Keep it simple – show up, be committed to your position, but don’t forget to have fun and enjoy working at the best place in Duluth! Our team is goofy, committed and authentic!”
