Bayfront Festival Park Events
Our neighbors at Bayfront Park always have a party going on! Throughout the summer, Duluth visitors and locals alike gather together for festivals featuring entertainment, art, and food. The space along the waterfront also plays host to some of Duluth’s largest events, including Fourth Fest, Blues Fest, and All Pints North – as well as annual concerts with Hairball and Trampled by Turtles. Bayfront also offers a fun playground for kids to enjoy with a perfect view of the Duluth harbor allowing visitors to watch ships make their journey from around the world.

View the Bayfront 2022 calendar at https://bayfrontfestivalpark.com/events-calendar/.

Summer is here – and so are fresh new flavors at Silos! Our outdoor patio dining is open (weather permitting), and as the Duluth harbor welcomes ships into the port, we are welcoming guests to dine with us in the sun, take in the incredible view, and find a new favorite entrée.

Our new summer menu features multiple new selections meant to create a delicious and memorable dining experience during your stay!

Wood Fire Hits

Guests can enjoy an updated Wood Fire section, including items from both land and sea cooked using local mesquite, hickory, and applewood. Our Tenderloin Filet Mignon, Center Cut Ribeye, and New York Strip are all served with a delicious garlic herb butter.

Dive into our Seafood selection with an order of our Norwegian Salmon in a bourbon mustard glaze, shrimp and scallop options, or Walleye with a lemon caper aioli.

Steak Enhancements and Sides

For the maximalists, we’ve also upgraded our enhancements and sides. Add some Truffle Steak Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, a Blue Cheese Cap, or Pan Roasted Shrimp to your steak entrée. Or try one of our mouth watering sides – including Truffle and White Cheddar Mac and Cheese, Wood Fired Glazed Carrots, Wild Rice Pilaf, or Truffle Fried Potatoes. You really can’t go wrong any way you choose to enhance your meal.

Pastas

Carbs calling your name? May we entice you with our hearty Lobster Mac and Cheese, featuring butter poached lobster, lobster tarragon cheese sauce, panko crust, elbow pasta, and shaved parmesan? Or possibly try our Vegan Lasagna Roll cooked with vegan Italian sausage, tomato garlic sauce, eggplant, peppers, squash, vegan mozzarella, and fresh basil or our Summer Ravioli. Each dish pairs beautifully with a side Farmer’s or Caesar Salad and a crisp glass of fine wine.

Salads

Always a light summer favorite, our salad menu is filled with fresh options. Feel like making it a little more hearty? Simply add grilled or smoked salmon, grilled chicken, or steak to any salad! This season we are offering a Summer Berry salad with baby spinach, blueberries, strawberries, feta cheese, candied pecans, and balsamic vinaigrette. Sounds like sunshine in a bowl to us!

We may also recommend the new Panzanella salad to those tasting for a more Tuscan salad. The flavors from artisan greens, heirloom tomatoes, red onions, garlic croutons, shaved parmesan, and Italian dressing all come together to create this dish. Delizioso!

Handhelds

Our handhelds are always a crowd pleaser, and with new additions like the Blue Cheese Steak Sandwich and Pastrami, we guarantee the selection just got even better. The Blue Cheese Steak Sandwich is the perfect collaboration of wood fired steak, sauteed onion, truffle aioli, arugula, and bleu cheese on a toasted ciabatta. Bleu cheese not your thing? The Pastrami is stacked high with whole grain Dijon mustard, house pickles, pickled cabbage, and swiss cheese on caraway rye bread.

Looking for a tried and true guest favorite? Our Walleye Tacos are a constant on our menu with pico de gallo, lettuce, and chipotle aioli on flour tortillas. Which handheld will you try next?

Desserts

We understand it may be difficult after looking at our menu, but try to save some room for one of our sweet desserts. Newest to our menu, the Boston Cream Profiteroles may just be our favorite menu item at the moment. Other classics include Crème Brûlée, New York Style Cheesecake with Fresh Berry Compote, and Sweetheart Chocolate Cake.

Summer Cocktails

We recommend you not let summer slip by without trying each of our seasonal cocktails, at least once.

Key Lime Martini

A divine dessert – in a glass. The Key Lime Martini features Absolute Vanilla, housemade key lime syrup, and cream.

Bay-sil Cucumber Gimlet

Crisp and refreshing – just like a relaxing afternoon on the bay. We shake together Prairie Cucumber Vodka, Tattersall Lime Crema, lime, simple syrup, and fresh basil for the perfect gimlet.

All Day Rosé

Aperol. Strawberry puree. Lemon. Bubbly rosé. Soda water. Yeah, we could drink these all day!

Get a Buzzz

See what the buzz is all about. Made with Tattersall Barreled Gin, Tattersall Orange Crema, housemade honey syrup, and lemon for a wonderful summer cocktail.

It is our constant goal to ensure guests have a memorable and rejuvenating stay while at Pier B, and with food being the way to everyone’s heart – we know the new summer menu at Silos will have everyone falling in love with their Duluth getaway. Book now for your summer getaway or plan your next meal out by visiting OpenTable.

Resting on the waterfront has many perks, but one of our favorites has to be the use of our docks in our on-site slip during the summer months. It just so happens the docks are going in for the season on May 9, and guests and locals alike will be able to enjoy all the fun of lake life at Pier B!

Here are a few of the best ways to enjoy Lake Superior from Pier B:

Guests have the ability to launch and dock their boat during their stay.

Providing easy access to the Duluth harbor, guests can bring their boat for a getaway on the lake. Take in the hillside views, enjoy some fishing, and simply soak up some sun before heading back to Pier B for the evening.

Local boaters can stop by and dine at Silos Restaurant.

Live in the area, cruising the lake, and craving some delectable food and drinks? Come through the Pier B bridge to dock and dine at Silos Restaurant. Offering indoor and patio dining options with a menu to feast your eyes and stomach on – Silos is the perfect stop before heading out again.

More into dining on the boat? Silos offers dockside to-go daily for those hungry out on the water. Just call 218-336-3430 to place a dockside to-go order.

Your Boat Club boat rental is housed right at our docks.

Looking to get out on the lake during your getaway, but don’t have a boat of your own? Your Boat Club offers a variety of boat and pontoon rentals available for a full or half day. Visit yourboatclub.com to reserve and Pier B’s team will have the boat prepared at our docks for you when you are ready to hit the water.

Explore by paddleboard, paddle boat, water bike, or kayak.

Bring your own or ask the front desk about our water sport rentals! Cast off your kayak, paddleboard, water bike, or paddle boat from our launch for Superior adventures within our slip or out in the harbor. *Please bring your own life jackets. **We no longer offer on-site kayak rentals, we advise to bring your own.

There are so many ways to enjoy Lake Superior in the summer and we are happy to be able to offer easy access to the water! Planning on using our slip? For the convenience of all guests stepping on or off our shores, the Pier B private bridge opens upon request from Memorial Day through Labor Day– guests can call 218-481-8888 and a Pier B team member will assist.

Here at Pier B Resort Hotel in Duluth, MN, we feel very lucky to be located along the shores of Lake Superior, which boasts some of the greatest views and exploring opportunities. Lesser-known are the enchanting and breathtaking waterfalls located throughout the North Shore and right here in Duluth. Nestled in the middle of residential areas or hidden in some of the area’s hiking trails and nature destinations, these treasures are a favorite to locals and visitors alike.

Ready to fall in love with some falls? Explore these natural wonders:

Amity Park
Amity Park is home to some of the best waterfalls in Duluth– right in our own backyard! After seeing these, you may not even feel the need to drive along the North Shore. Driving down Seven Bridges Road, you’ll notice these beautiful falls by the roadside parking next to the bridge.

1) Keep Smiling Falls
2) Amity Falls
3) Deep Falls

Pro Tip: Bring your bikes and cycle all the way around the park, or explore on foot.

Chester Creek
Chester Creek Hiking Trail runs directly on the water’s edge and is full of fun, rocky areas to climb. There’s definitely something for everyone here. We would advise against what TLC sang about in the 90’s and absolutely chase the waterfalls – they are beautiful!

Gooseberry Falls
Get excellent views and pictures of the falls without the crowds! With miles and miles of awesome trails throughout the park – adventurers of any age will love hiking here! Take one of the short loops with kids or choose a longer trail and go off the beaten path.

The waterfall is magnificent and you can get really close to it (just be careful on the rocks). The Gitchi-Gami Trail also goes through the park if you like to bike!

Pro Tips:
  • Start your adventure with views of Middle and Lower Falls, located nearest to the parking area. These falls are the most accessible and the trails and paths leading to the viewing area at this location are very safe.
  • Take in excellent views of Lake Superior on the Gitchi Gummi Loop Trail (1.2 miles).
  • For additional adventure, you can take the walk up to Fifths Falls.

George Crosby Manitou State Park
Worth the trip up the shore! Begin your day of exploring at George Crosby Manitou State Park. With miles of trails and incredible views, you will be impressed by this lesser-known State Park. Some of the trails are very rough, but worth the experience. From the falls to the overlook view of the Sawtooth Mountains, there are many incredible sights to take in here. Be on the lookout for wildlife while on your hike as well. This spot on the adventure will take the most time due to the terrain on the trails, so if you are on a schedule, allow for extra time.

Tettegouche State Park
Tettegouche is known for some of the most iconic cliff views on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Walk along the shoreline of the largest of the Great Lakes, or journey inland to check out the magnificent High Falls and Baptism River.

Make sure you visit:
  • Shovel Point Trail, which begins out of the main visitor center parking lot. This trek is not incredibly long, but includes some stairs, rocky, and potentially icy pathways, as well as some very unique micro habitats that can only be found along the North Shore – so it’s important to stay on trail to protect fragile plant life.
  • Take time at the top of the cliff to view the rhyolite cliffs that have a rosy hue and are less common than the other types of volcanic rock that can be seen in other locations along the shore.
  • Watch for Peregrines! Nesting falcons often make this location home and while they may not be guarding nests in the winter months, some birds may stay for the season or return early to their territory. You may catch them patrolling the skies along the cliff edge.

Temperance River Falls
Often overlooked along the shore, this park is a jewel with secret falls, swirling water among rock formations, and stunning ravines.

The ranger station is on the Lake Superior side of Highway 61, while the best trails are on the hillside. Make sure to take the trail head north up into the Superior National Forest along the Temperance River to get the most dramatic views of the falls and cascading water!

For those looking for a long hike and a higher view, this trail system connects up to the Superior Hiking Trail and can lead you to Carlton and Tofte Peaks (approximately 2 miles from upper falls.)

Pro Tips:
  • Park in the lot located right on Highway 61 and take the trail north towards Hidden Falls to see some of the most beautiful river ravines on the shore.
  • Due to slippery hiking surfaces, yaktrax or other ice/slip resistant footwear is strongly recommended for winter/early spring visits.

Illgen Falls Park
Illgen falls is breathtaking– there’s not much hiking around the falls themselves – however there is a rope swing over the water to use at your own discretion. Beautiful pictures can be taken around the waterfall.

Pro Tip: Walk about 0.5 miles to the bottom of the waterfall from the small parking lot, there you will see the rope swing.

Not only incredible sightseeing destinations, the landscape and hiking trails surrounding the majority of our area’s waterfalls make these outdoor excursions a most memorable part of your North Shore getaway. Ask a member of our front desk team if you need any additional suggestions or information this waterfall season!

We all hear about the excitement of “Wedding Season”. Typically taking place in the summer months, our calendars are occupied with weekends of weddings, showers, and other celebrations. Although we love peak season and all it brings, here at Pier B Resort Hotel in Duluth, MN we are even more enchanted by the winter wedding.

Photo by Rachel Lahlum Photography | rachellahlum.com

1. One of the main concerns we hear from couples about planning a winter wedding is the fear that weather may interrupt an outdoor ceremony or reception. A valid concern when planning one of the most special days of your life. Ceremonies can be moved indoors within 6 hours before the planned start time, giving you plenty of time to make the call. In addition to this, all onsite weddings do receive a discounted block of rooms so everyone can stay right on property! Friends and family can enjoy a winter weekend together to make memories all centered around your celebration.

2. More vendors are also available during the winter since it is in the “off season”. This could mean booking your top venue, florist, or musician who may be already fully booked during other times of the year. It could also mean more one on one time with those vendors to ensure even the littlest details. Along with more availability during this time, here at Pier B Resort Hotel, our room rental costs are lower between the months of November- April with other vendors in the area also offering off season pricing.

3. Winter in Duluth, MN is the perfect season to use beautifully rich and deep jewel tones along with classy textures like velvet. Bridesmaids gowned in emerald or burgundy play against the contrast of white snow elegantly, not to mention the added backdrop of Lake Superior’s deep blues. There is also the opportunity to add mood to your wedding day, with days being shorter in the winter, it creates more time for your photographer to play with lighting, enhancing the possibilities and variety to your wedding album.

4. Our team of experienced staff is here to make it easy to plan your important day – and come with amazing ideas of how to create your perfect winter wonderland wedding. Whether it’s a hot chocolate bar or outdoor fire pits just for your wedding guests. We are willing and excited to work with every couple to turn the wedding you have always envisioned into a reality.

5.They say it’s the most wonderful time of the year – for more reasons than you may think! While most are holding their weddings during the summer months, an isolated winter wedding causes no wedding fatigue. During this time people are actually often looking for a party. Making this a time special just for you and your partner.

There are so many wonderful reasons to plan a winter wedding and we would be honored to help you begin your enchantedly ever after. Submit a proposal today to contact our events team for more details.
